Still Czeched In
Me and Hanka
It's been almost four years since my Czech adventure started, and apparently it's still going on. About a week ago my exchange partner was here with a group of Czech tourist doing another West Coast Adventure tour that he (and I) put together the year after our exchange ended.
This was his third group for the West Coast and he has plans for some East Coast excursions as well. Anyway, after he left, I received an email from Andrea and Hanka of the Fulbright Commission in Prague. Prague would be represented at an international education conference being held right here in LA.
I was surprised and happy to be invited to attend a reception/dinner at the General Consul of the Czech Republic. I had to take a night off massage school for the event, but I would get to see Hanka and Jakub again--and right here in LA. In fact, the house of the General Consul is in West LA, near UCLA, so it's only about 10-15 minutes drive from my home.
It was a bit surreal to see the people I associated with in Prague here in LA.
I even saw the reps of the Fulbright Commission in Bratislava. That was an unexpected pleasure.
I was glad to see that they were enjoying their time in my city and to hear of their LA adventures. Some expressed surprise that I did so well living in Zatec after living in Los Angeles, but that's just how I roll! =)
