Last Weekend

This is Mark. Isn't he handsome? Yeah, I know. Anyway...He invited me up (OK, I invited myself, but let's not nitpick--the point is, I went) to see him in Oakhurst this past weekend where he is working temporarily. I had never been to this area before, and I am glad I went. It was very beautiful, yet not very far from LA--an easy drive. The town of Oakhurst itself was very cute, but I didn't take any pictures of that. =) Just trust me. Oakhurst is very close to Yosemite National Park, but we didn't go there. I was only there for one day, and there are only so many things you can do in one day. Perhaps we will get to the park another time. =)
We did go down and check out Bass Lake, and I was glad because I was very curious about it. I expected a more commercial looking lake, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it very inviting and natural looking. I don't really know how to say what I expected except to say that I expected to be a lake like Mammoth Mountain's ski lodges. They are very impersonal--big structures, throngs and throngs of people, just very commercial, crowded, and assembly-line-like. I remember how shocked I was the first time I went there that it wasn't more cozy. But the lake was different--in a good way.
When we were there, we saw a swarm of ladybugs! I have never seen so many ladybugs in my life. It was so unusual to me to see so many flying around that at first I didn't recognize them. I had to ask Mark what they were! It's a good thing they were ladybugs since they were literally all over the field we walked into, and they are probably the only bugs I don't mind crawling on me. I am sure Mark would agree.
Overall, I enjoyed my visit very much. I am always amazed by how much a short trip can feel like a huge getaway. It feels like more time than it actually is. Maybe it's because each and every moment is appreciated? Could be! I don't know. Don't get me wrong; I love my long trips too, and I enjoy them immensely...but there is something special about a short trip like this even if I can't explain it.Whatever! I was very happy, and that's the important thing. Well, I am pretty sure Mark was happy too, and that's also very important--especially since, as I said, I kind of invited myself. =)

Yeah...
It was a good time.
